Description
Acumen, LLC, together with
its affiliated non-profit firm The SPHERE Institute, seeks an entry level
Research Analyst/Programmer to support research and consulting in the areas of
health and social policy.
This position will provide
analysis on major federal and state issues such as:
- Identifying
strategies for pay-for-performance in public health insurance
- Promoting
data-driven decision-making in youth development and K-12 education
- Monitoring
health care claims to detect side effects from vaccines and prescription
drugs
- Ensuring
the effective delivery of the new Medicare prescription drug plan,
including
- The
accuracy of drug prices
- Subsidies
for low-income individuals
- Drug
utilization and costs across regions
- Reducing
risk of harm for individuals with developmental disabilities
- Improving
the information available to social workers in the child welfare system
- Assessing
the cost-effectiveness of alternative strategies for AIDS prevention and
treatment in the US
- Determining
appropriate child care subsidy rates for low-income families

Analysts typically:
- Interact
with project officers and other government agency representatives and
clients to access data and program information, determine analytical
strategy and present findings
- Develop
research files from large confidential datasets, such as health care
claims, school records, child welfare case management data, probation
cases, and developmental disabilities client records, as well as in-house
surveys
- Conduct
statistical and econometric analyses of data using statistical software
- Work with senior
researchers on analysis and evaluation
Qualifications
- BA/BS in economics,
statistics, math, public policy or related field is required; master’s
degree is preferred
- Experience
in quantitative analysis and proven analytical ability; statistical or
analytical programming experience strongly preferred but not required
- Enthusiasm
for learning
This is a full time position, with salary based on experience /
